I asked to receive Jesus in my life at the age of 8 years old during a Christmas rally at Faith Community Baptist Church. However, it was only 6 years later that I decided to commit myself to follow Christ at TPBC. In the years before my recommitment, I now testify fully of God's sustaining Grace and commitment to me which has carried me through my involvement with a street corner gang. Despite my constant involvement in fights and theft, it must be noted that God did not leave or desert the work that has started in me. At 12 years old, I quit the gang and a year later, I was invited to The People's Bible Church (TPBC) by my classmate Roger to an Easter event.

I was attending TPBC for various events and over the year that followed, Roger himself developed to be my closest friend. Hence, it was of little hesitation that I decided to have TPBC as my local church. The major incident that influenced my commitment was a conversation with my sister. The mere utterances of the words "Man of Faith" and "Strong Christian" impacted & convicted me of my then spiritual state. It was also my personal admiration of the Biblical character David's encounter with Goliath that I realised my total lack of faith & spiritual depth as David was a boy just like I was when he brought Goliath down with his sling.

However, it was no easy decision made as my parents opposed fiercely of my faith. My relationship with my father soured as we went heads-on daily in the weeks that followed. My personal commitment was put to the test, and in retrospect, I testify of God's sustaining grace and commitment to me in that period. With the provision of godly support in the form of Jacob & Roger, I persevered in my walk with God and by His perfect design and timing, my parents drove me to church the day I was to share my testimony in Students' Fellowship; a sign of acceptance! Praise God!

In the years that followed, the Lord worked in me to finally stop using vulgarities and profanities in my speech, to increase my patience as I was very lot-headed and to be bolder as I was very shy. I stopped lying and by His grace and empowerment, even picked up guitar unaided.

To write my testimony depicting my walk with God as a bed of roses would be a lie, as it is not without it's ups and downs. But with each valley I walked, the Lord has proven His Faithfulness and unconditioned commitment to me by setting me on His mountain- a position closer to His Heart. Without those periods of dryness, aimlessness, rebellion etc, I would not have been moulded to be the person I am today.

I this short account of the involvement of God in my life, much has been left unmentioned for inclusion of all would be an almost impossible task!

But of all that has been said of our God by all of His people, shall echo two of which has been of greatest significance to me:

  1. His faithfulness and constant companionship that stems from his love- an unconditional commitment to His people, has been proven true in my life.
  2. His Sovereignty in the events that fill my life remains unquestioned. The control He has in each moment I face in life, and the perfect timing of each and every occurrence proves that...

    God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me!

    He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
    He will make a way
    He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness, He'll lead me!
And Rivers in the desert will I see!
    Heaven and Earth will fade,
But His Word will still remain
He will do something new today!

    - a song: God will make a way
