Young Adults

The YA ministry traces its roots way back to Dec 1974 when the Saturday Youth Fellowship (YF) was set up in the old church premise at Kim Keat Avenue. Fifty members from the Young Adults Meeting were taken out to form the first YA group led by Alan Yong, who became the first president of YF ministry. Door-to-door evangelism and one-to-one discipleship training were strongly emphasised in the ministry.

The YF continued to meet in Kim Keat for their worship services each Saturday until 1988, when the venue for worship was shifted to the CNEC HQ premises at Braddell Road. In 1990, the YF moved in together with the rest of the church to worship in the current church building at Lorong Ah Soo.

Two years later, a decision was made by the church leadership to direct YF into a cell-based ministry. YF was renamed YM (Youth Ministry) and then to YA (Young Adults) to better reflect the nature of the ministry. At present, the ministry is overseen by Pastor Goh Hiap Siang.

The YA ministry is currently made up of members ranging from early twenties to mid thirties. Most members are in some major transition in their lives, serving national service, entering university, making career choices, choosing life partners, investing in a home or setting up young families.

The challenge of the YA ministry is therefore

  1. To teach members to love and obey God wherever God places them.
  2. To encourage members to grow in their knowledge and develop skills for living the Christian life and serving others at home, at work, in their studies and in the various church ministries.
  3. To bring the Gospel to our pre-Christian friends.
  4. To provide a support network and to promote a sense of belonging to a Biblical community among
    • our young adults as well as any friends interested in becoming a part of the YA community
    • members transferred from our Student Ministry
so that together with the rest of the church, we may fulfil our vision of “Every member passionate for Christ and touching lives”.

We do so through

  1. The studying, teaching and preaching of the Word of God,
  2. Promoting a strong prayer life,
  3. Encouraging multilevel mentoring within the cell group, the accountability groups and informal relationships established among the members,
  4. Serving one another and
  5. Seeking to be a witness of Christ to our pre-Christian friends.
